Taxpayer Advocate Dan Patlak Announces Bid for Re-Election to Board of Review

Wheeling - Commissioner and taxpayer advocate Dan Patlak today announced his intention to run for re-election to the Cook County Board of Review. Patlak, the only Republican on the three member Board was first elected in 2010. He is the first Board commissioner in history to devote full time to the position. In his first campaign for the mostly suburban (1st District) seat Patlak ran on his qualifications having previously worked at the Board as an analyst for eight years, serving as a local township assessor, being a Certified Illinois Assessing Officer and holding a real estate license since 1986. Commissioner Patlak’s re-election campaign will stress his record of accomplishment since his December 2010 swearing in.

“The Cook County Board of Review is more than just a body that adjudicates assessment appeals,” said Patlak. “It is also an office that has a responsibility to empower taxpayers by educating them about how the property tax system works. That’s why the seminars I’ve conducted throughout my district focus not just on the appeal process but also explain the role of exemptions and some of the intricacies about why tax bills are what they are. Taxpayers have a right to expect that their elected officials will focus their energies on serving the public. That’s why I work every day side-by-side with the employees of the Board to make it a more efficient and taxpayer friendly body,” concluded Patlak.

The Patlak campaign has released an impressive list of Republican officials endorsing his re-election including Illinois Republican Chairman Patrick Brady. “It is widely acknowledged that Dan Patlak is the most qualified person ever to serve as a Commissioner at the Board of Review but he is best known for his honesty and integrity,” said Brady. “Dan is the breath of fresh air that is needed to restore taxpayer confidence in Cook County government,” concluded Brady. Cook County Republican Chairman Lee Roupas had this to say, “Dan Patlak represents exactly what one could hope for in a public servant—honesty, integrity and a commitment to excellence. His election has been a shot in the arm for the Cook County Republican Party as he represents the first Republican to unseat a sitting Democrat county official in over fifteen years. Dan’s unwavering service to the taxpayers of Cook County warrants our support for 4 more years!”
