Chicago—Yesterday morning at the A Safe Haven 5K Run, Team Patlak Republicans were recognized by A Safe Haven President Neli Vazques Rowland for entering the most runners and for raising more money than any other participating team. All money raised by Team Patlak Republicans was targeted toward programs assisting homeless veterans. The 5K was held at Douglas Park in Chicago and was attended by more than a thousand people.

Commissioner Dan Patlak of the Cook County Board of Review first learned of A Safe Haven's work with the homeless back in April. "By the time I finished taking a tour of the facility, speaking with CEO Brian Rowland and President Neli Vazquez Rowland and learning about how A Safe Haven helps homeless veterans become totally self-sufficient, I knew this was a charity I wanted to help," said Commissioner Patlak. "The 5K came off without a hitch for my wife Dulce, son Teddy and the rest of our team which traveled to Douglas Park from all four corners of Cook County. In addition to our team of forty runners we also had many supporters who contributed almost $8,000 to A Safe Haven's veteran work, we are grateful for the participation of all involved. I am looking forward to recruiting a bigger team and raising more money at next year's event," concluded Patlak.

Commissioner Patlak was first elected in 2010 from the first Board of Review district which encompasses ninety percent of suburban Cook County and small portions of the 41st ward in Chicago. He was reelected in 2012 and is serving a four year term. Patlak served as Wheeling Township Assessor from 2006 through 2010. Dan worked at the Board of Review as an analyst from 1999 to 2006. He lives with his wife Dulce and twelve year old son Teddy in Wheeling.
